Outdoor Entertaining for Labor Day

In Houston, Labor Day means we’ve survived another Summer and less scorching outdoor entertaining is on its way. Your outdoor space should be an extension of your home, reflecting your style.

Outdoor fetes don’t need to be a perfectly designed pinterest scene. Take these tips for designing a party ready patio fit for impromptu Wine Wednesdays, a swanky Saturday sunset soiree or a neighborhood BBQ.

1) Create an outdoor living room

Outdoor furniture has come a long way from aluminum recliners. Investing in outdoor furniture that will last past this season is a great way to create a comfy, welcoming outdoor area. I love the Lee Uncovered collection for a soft, upholstered patio living room.  And if you’re worried about a little rain or dirt, Lee tested their collection by submerging in a lake for a week! The cleanup? Just hose it down. See the video here.

2) Add some style to the mood

Acessorize your area with an outdoor rug  and add lighting.   Surya has some very fashionable indoor/outdoor rugs that can add style to any space. Lighting is so versatile for outdoor spaces from tea light lanterns and string lights to pendants and lanterns. Even Robert Abbey has an outdoor lighting line.

3) Stock local

For the freshest produce and meat at your picnic or BBQ, skip the grocery store and hit up your local farmer’s market. There are a ton around Houston that support local farms and community gardens.  Grilling fruits and vegetables is one of my favorite treats, next to grilling steak, of course. Here’s a list of local farmer’s market.

4) Cocktails!

What outdoor event would be complete without refreshments? Summer screams for light, fresh and fizzy. Whip up a round of Gin-Gin Mules. Opting for a less boozy refreshment? Add some cucumbers to sparkling water. Voila!

Have a fun and safe Labor Day whether it is spent pool side or grill-side. We hope you are surrounded by family, friends and fashionable furnishings. Just don’t forget the sunscreen! And when you’re ready to extend your indoors out, come by the showroom. We carry outdoor furnishings in upholstrey, powdered aluminum, resin and more as well as Surya’s outdoor rugs and Robert Abbey lighting to make your outdoors . . . home.
