As part of our December series on the media room, we’re highlighting some of our favorite pieces to create what will surely be the favorite room in your home. Some families dream of a traditional theater style viewing room with personal seating. But for many of us, especially those whose TV viewing spot doubles as a family room, creating a watching lounge is the better choice.
Once a mainstay of the 1980s, the sectional sofa has retuned with elegant option to suite any interior style. We are particularly fond of some of the choices currently offered by Lee Industries and Michael Weiss for Vanguard.
Another great option with sectional sofas is to layer on ottomans, creating a virtual bed in the lounge. (Yes, there is a risk you will never get your kids – or husband – to leave the room.) We’d love to see Carter Furniture’s futuristic Fantasia collection in a space age media room.
And, if you want to keep the traditional look and feel of leather in your media room, consider a sectional from Design NS. We adore their high quality leather and think it would be so fun to pile the whole family onto one of their sectionals, wrapped with rich faux fur throws for a holiday movie!
For smaller spaces, where a sectional just won’t fit, search out deep, but shorter seating. One look we love is this little sofa from Michael Weiss with it’s great big cushions. Paired with an upholstered ottoman, this little guy can stand up to the big job of providing silver screen-worthy comfort.
Lee Industries also has some fantastic choices for smaller lounge spaces. We really dig the TV loungers. Sure they are made for one, but are clearly just large enough to snuggle with a kiddo, fur baby or that special someone. For a more formal space (think media room incognito) Lee’s extended sofas are great choices. The one below caught our eye thanks to the classic, skirted look.
